But after you learn how to crochet, you don't always have time to complete ambitious projects like a crochet blanket or a crochet vest.

Sometimes, a crafter needs a simple project they can complete in an afternoon. And that's when small crochet projects are great – from cute book sleeves to fun earrings, they're great pieces for your home and wardrobe which won't take more than a few hours to make.

Book sleeves are such a fun granny square project and (depending on the size of the book!) can be worked up in a few hours.

To make a book sleeve, crochet a granny square approximately twice the width of your book. Stitch two of the edges together in an envelope shape and place your book inside. Stitch on a button to fasten the sleeve and you're done!
